Car companies dedicate years of hard work and determination to design a car that claims the title of everyone's "Dream Car". It was a near-impossible decision for consumers until the world was introduced to one of the most influential sports cars on the market. That title would be claimed by none other than the Porsche 911.

In 1963, Porsche introduced one of the most influential sports cars on the market that took the world by storm. Successor to the Porsche 356, came the Porsche 911. The first run of the 911s notably included the 911 Targa (1966), the world's first-ever safety cabriolet, and the 911 Carrera RS 2.7 (1972), with a 210 hp engine that remains the epitome of a dream car. Its characteristic "ducktail" was also the world's first rear spoiler on a production vehicle.

After 10 years of the wildly successful first generation of the 911 came the G series from 1973 to 1989. The greatest change in this series of the 911 was the introduction of a turbocharged engine increasing horsepower to 260 hp in 1975.

The 964 (1989-1994) introduced Porsche 911 consumers to all-wheel drive and the entire platform of the vehicle was revised with 85% new components. Four-wheel drive arrived alongside power steering, ABS brakes, and airbags. In 1992 the 964 Turbo was upgraded to a more powerful engine producing 100 more horsepower than the G-series at 360 hp.

Nicknamed the "Widow Maker", the 993 (1993-1998) was the last 911 with an air-cooled engine This version of the 911 also introduced arguably to flashiest to exist, the GT2. Many Porsche enthusiasts dub the 993 as the best-looking on the lot.

Staying on trend with the heritage of the original 911s, the 997 (2004-2011) had a visual shift on the front end with clear oval headlights and separate blinkers, like older models of the 911.Improvements to the engine, like double-clutch transmission and direct fuel injection made this one of the most efficient 911s. This generation also produced the 611 hp GT2 RS as well as the GT3 RS 4.0, the dream of all dream cars according to most.

For the 991 (2011-2015), performance and design continued to evolve and re-introduced Targa to the design model. In 2015, the new 3.0-liter bi-turbo charged six-cylinder flat engine developing 350 hp and 420 hp in the 911 Carrera and Carrera S. This model signified a massive leap in innovation and design and defends its title as the world's best-selling sports car.

Nearly 60 years later and we have the Porsche 992 (2015-Current). The 992 models’ sharper lines and a more aggressive hood compared to its predecessor the 991. The more sculpted hood pays tribute to the 70s models of 911s, the late 911 Targa and G Series. Gearing increased from 7 to 8 speeds but making no compromise in fuel efficiency or performance. The Carrera S increases from 420 to 450 hp. The 911 is the epitome of all dream cars and its heritage remains the same year after year.
